Chim cút mua về rửa sạch với nước pha 1 muỗng cà phê muối, nhổ lại lông chim cho thật sạch, để ráo, chặt làm đôi. Sau đó, ướp chim cút với ngũ vị hương, mật ong, tỏi băm, nước tương khoảng 10 phút cho ngấm gia vị.
Xà lách nhặt, rửa sạch, để ráo. Cà chua rửa sạch, cắt khoanh tròn như hình bên. Hành tây bóc vỏ, cắt mỏng.
Làm nóng dầu hào trong chảo, cho chim cút đã ướp gia vị vào, chiên vàng đều.
Khi chim cút chín, gắp ra đĩa có lót sẵn giấy nến để thấm dầu. Trộn đều hành tây với hạt nêm, đường trắng, giấm, tiêu trong 1 cái chén.
Xếp xà lách ra đĩa, thêm cà chua và chim cút chiên lên trên. Cuối cùng chỉ việc rưới đều hành tây đã trộn vào là xong. Ăn với cơm là hết chê luôn.
